About Crystal Creek

Secluded within a pristine 250 acre rainforest adjoining World Heritage listed national parks on the NSW/Queensland border, Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat combines a tranquil setting with luxurious accommodation, superb comfort and attention to detail.

With an emphasis on privacy, Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, a honeymoon to remember, an intimate wedding, or for those who just want to escape life’s hectic pace and relax.

The retreat is an eco-tourist‘s delight – stroll under giant strangler figs, along fern-lined gorges, lie in a hammock over a crystal pool, then snuggle up for the night with your loved one and let the chorus of native wildlife serenade you to sleep.

There are six accommodation styles to choose from:

    – Creekside Spa Cabin
A cosy, romantic traditional rainforest cabin with all the luxuries

    – The Tamarind Bungalow
Spacious modern cabin with views to old growth rainforest, fireplace, and a double spa in a striking marble bathroom

    – Rainforest Canopy Bungalow
Gorgeous split-level luxury bungalow with a curved oak-lined ceiling, fireplace and double spa

    – Glass Terrace Bungalow
Nearly 100 square metres of modern glass pavilion with a large private deck, double spa and a sliding glass wall

    – Luxury Rainforest Lodge
Just over 150 square metres of luxury lodge in the rainforest with double spa, fireplace and pool

    – Luxury Mountain View Lodge
Nearly 150 square metres of luxury lodge high in the valley with breathtaking views.

Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat is situated on a property of 100 hectares (250 acres) bounded on three sides by Numinbah Nature Reserve. The Reserve forms part of the Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves Australia, an area of World Heritage significance. The rock escarpment of Mount Springbrook and the ridge to the north is the New South Wales state border with Queensland.

Guiding you through the lush tranquility of our genuinely pristine rainforest are over 8 kilometres of tracks at the Retreat. They wander throughout our property, 60% of which is protected by our Voluntary Conservation Agreement. Many of our guests are so entranced by their surroundings that they never leave the property between arrival and departure. The paths are well signed and marked and we provide good maps. However they are wilderness tracks and can be uneven underfoot as well as slippery, rocky and mossy. We recommend taking one of our walking sticks for extra support on the walks. These are available outside the entrance to our Guest Games Room

      Further Afield
When you’re refreshed and ready for some excitement, only an hour’s drive away are the surf beaches and theme parks of the Gold Coast and the beautiful Byron Bay and its hinterland – which makes returning to your own romantic haven even more of a pleasure!

At Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat we regard the protection of our unique ecosystem as an important environmental opportunity – hence our ongoing investment in to restoring the site to its natural flora and fauna for future generations of Australians and overseas visitors alike.

On the Retreat is an area of land degraded by agricultural activity prior to 1967 and then left to the weeds – which is now undergoing rehabilitation and development. So far we have planted over 1000 native rainforest trees endemic to this area, including some threatened species that thrive on this property.

In creating the Retreat we have been challenged by creating accommodation that’s right inside a subtropical forest, but which is also as comfortable as possible during your time together. This is why we’re always looking for ways to achieve this by using less energy, or by taking environmentally sympathetic measures.
        These include:
LCD televisions in all our bungalows (except Cedar Lodge and the Luxury Mountain View Lodges) use less electricity.
Our Guest Games Room is on stilts of galvanised iron drilled into bedrock. All our buildings are in fact elevated off the ground, so their physical footprint is absolutely minimised.
‘Comfort Plus’ insulating glass is used throughout Cedar Lodge and the Luxury Mountain View Lodges to minimise heat transfer during hot days or cold nights, thus requiring less air conditioning.
Cedar Lodge uses a heat pump to warm its interior.
As a cleaning agent, disinfectant and anti-fungal product, we use diluted lemon myrtle oil. The pure oil itself is very powerful and can be heavily diluted. Unlike conventional chemical cleaners, it has a fresh, uplifting aroma.
We provide local pure lemon myrtle and macadamia oil soaps in the bungalows – they’re ‘almost good enough to eat’! Pure lemon myrtle oil is used in the ‘bath salts’ we make and provide for the guests.
We even have lemon myrtle trees around the Retreat if guests wish to use it for cooking!
